Budehaven Community School is celebrating the achievements of 94 students as the school again declares some outstanding A-level and BTEC examination results.
Teachers are delighted that 28% of
this year’s results are A* and A grades.
Headteacher David Barton said: “Once again we have seen just under three-quarters of all our results being graded at C or above. 99% of the results are graded A* to E.
“So many students have done extremely
well, and they are justifiably proud of their successes. I am thrilled that 50% of all the A-level grades are B grades or better, and many of the students following BTEC and other vocational-based courses have achieved either distinctions or the highest possible grade of distinction*.”
This year the first cohort of students studying creative media production (television and film) achieved a string of distinction* grades, enabling many of them to pursue undergraduate courses in this burgeoning sector. 56% of students taking a BTEC or Cambridge National course achieved distinction*. Most students are moving on to university, and the vast majority have achieved the grades necessary to attend their first choice university. Those moving into employment and apprenticeships have all gained the grades required to secure their places.
Two students have done especially well — Dan Edwards gained two A*s in maths and further maths and two As in physics and chemistry and will now study Mathematics at The University of Bath. Ben Pye achieved two A*s (mathematics, further mathematics) and two As (physics and chemistry) and will be studying Computer Science at the University of Bristol.
Oisin Coe achieved three grade As in English literature, sociology and philosophy and ethics opening the doors to the University of Warwick to read Philosophy. Claudia Etherington achieved A*s in art and photography, which has enabled her to read Fine Art at the University of West England. Raef Coles with A*, A, B and C looks forward to reading Computer Science at the University of Bristol, alongside Ben.
Seven of the BTEC Sport (Outdoor Education) students each gained three distinction* grades. George Lumley intends to read Education with Sport and PE at the University of St Mark and St John (Marjon), while Callum Heywood and Sean Wilcox begin apprenticeships with local companies.
Shannon Bluett will be going to the University of Exeter to read Exercise and Sports Science, having gained an A*, A* and B in PE, art and biology. Her sister, Katrina, is going to the University of West England in Bristol to study Children’s Nursing with ABB in art and design, biology, PE and a distinction* grade in health and social care.
