A SUMPTUOUS strawberry tea held in the chapel hall on Sunday, June 2, commenced the 140th anniversary celebrations at Yeolmbridge Methodist Chapel.
Strawberries and cream were kindly supplied by Shelley Vanstone from Tescos and were augmented by a splendid array of savouries, sponges, cakes, tray bakes, meringues and fancies baked by the ladies of the chapel. A good number sat down to tea enjoying the delights on offer and each others company.
Mrs Rene Smale ceremoniously cut the anniversary cake and spoke of her and her family’s association with the chapel over many years. She was invited to cut the cake by her daughter in law, Mrs Sandra Smale, the chapel secretary.
Those helping with the tea were Chris Adams, Dorothy Blake, Doris Daniel, Susan Desmond, Yvonne Neale, Sandra Smale, Pam Sobey, Diana Symons and Mary Cole, aided by two gallant washer uppers Tony Adams and Ronald Sobey.
The chapel had been beautifully decorated for the occasion with many arrangements aptly displayed in teapots.
In the evening a service of praise was held led by Rev Jo Smart with the Arscott Ladies Choir and guest organist Bernd Uhe from Germany.
The Arscott Ladies delighted a full chapel with their harmonious singing and varied choice of songs. They were very impressive and thoroughly enjoyable. An organ solo by Bernd of a piece by Handel showed the capabilities of the organ and was well received. A comprehensive vote of thanks was given by Sandra Smale.
It was a most successful occasion, spiritually, socially and financially and members of the chapel are grateful to everyone who came to share this special time with them.
