THERE are many different ways to celebrate poetry and creativity — even on Hallowe’en!
To the current Causley writer-in-residence Lou Sarabadzic, dressing up for Hallowe’en and going trick or treating certainly was one of them!
Posters were put up on social media and on shop windows to announce a very special event — from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, October 31, families were invited to Cyprus Well in Launceston to collect sweets and poems, and get a chance to visit the house.
Children came dressed up as vampires, witches, werewolves and the phantom of the opera, and were pleased to get to read specially selected poems by Causley and other renowned writers. The poems certainly were a hit with grown-ups too, who were more than happy to take one home.
Lou said: “I would like to express my thanks to everyone who came to the door that night, as well as to the Causley Trust and the organisation Literature Works for making the residency — and therefore this event — possible.”
Since Causley’s house can’t remain open to the public at all times, Lou wants to take every single opportunity to organise open-house events while on residence until the end of December.
On November 4, Lou invited local community members to remember Charles Causley, and share his poems and anecdotes, since the most esteemed Cornish poet passed away on November 4, 2003.
If anyone has any suggestions for future events, up to the end of December, feel free to email Lou through the Causley Trust on [email protected].
