W H Ley & Partners from Thuborough Barton, Sutcombe celebrated their 29th year of exhibiting at the show.

They entered ten cows in the Holstein Cattle section and a brown Swiss, which went onto claim the first prize in the Any Other Pure Breed Cattle-Dairy competition in the cow, any age, in milk or dry category.

The Holsteins however did excellently with Thuborough Annie 83 winning the Junior Championship (for a heifer born between June 1, 2016 and May 31, 2017) and Thuborough Freda 520 doing likewise in Class 0291, which was for a cow in milk not having had more than three calvings.

They also claimed four seconds and two thirds to complete a memorable day.

Roland Ley said: “It was the best standard of Holsteins we’ve seen at the show for a long time, there were over 60 entries. But the judge, Mr Griffiths from did a great job so we’re really pleased.

“We’ve been showing down here since 1989 and it’s a good farmers shop window and a good advertisement for your stock.”

W H Ley & Partners also took home the Silver Challenge Cup.
