THE Charles Causley Trust has launched an appeal for archive material ahead of next year — 2017 marks the centenary of the birth of the late Launceston poet.
There is already a Causley archive, which is kept in Causley’s old house, Cyprus Well, which is owned by the Charles Causley Trust.
Over the years since he died, many people have given their memories and stories about Charles and have donated photographs. Several of his poems were inspired by local places, happenings and events.
The Charles Causley Trust would like to add to this archive and so it is asking if anyone has any stories or photos that they would be willing to donate.
Trust vice-chairman Malcolm Wright said: “We can arrange to scan any photos or documents, so no one will need to give any originals away. In particular we are keen to see photographs of Charles — either informal snapshots or perhaps more formal photographs of him participating in local events. Also postcards, letters or any sort of correspondence.”
The trust already has a wealth of information in its archive, but, Mr Wright added: “There are gaps, and there must be much more that we have not yet found. It is our intention to publish a book to celebrate his centenary, containing a mixture of memories, anecdotes, poems and photographs, which will celebrate the life of this great poet and the town which he loved, and whilst our main appeal is to expand the archive, we may ask to include some material in the book.”
If anyone is able to make any contributions, they can be left at Launceston Tourist Information Centre, or contact Malcolm at [email protected] or by telephone at 01566 776302
