It will directly affect the communities of Stratton and Bude, but it will also affect the outlying communities, if they visit Bude at any time. We all know how difficult traffic and parking is during the summer season, do we really want this to be a problem all the year round?
The developers suggest that 500 jobs will be initiated, the development will not provide these jobs, it's all 'pie in the sky,' if the area of land adjacent to the present industrial site is made available for further industrial development, if firms can be persuaded to build there, if any business is likely to be interested, in this present financial climate. Do Catesby seriously think that we cannot see through their ploys? Do they think that people living in Cornwall spend their time leaning on farm gates with straw in their mouths saying "oo-aar, oo-aar" all the time? If they do, they are certainly mistaken.
In my view, these predatory developers bear a close resemblance to the Vikings and the like, who years ago invaded Britain.
The present day invaders, plunder the land and ruin the tranquil life of people who are directly affected by it, as is the popular cry against injustice "what about their human rights?"
Now Catesby are threatening to 'invade' Cornwall. Are we going to sit back and say "there is nothing we can do"? Or are we going to fight this in any legal way that we can? The town council, business fraternity and the communities of Stratton and Bude need to work together to prevent this development happening.
It is easy to say "it does not affect me so it's not my concern", but it does affect us all, if one developer gets away with building on green fields, then be sure others will target other green fields so that those of us who are fortunate enough to live with the Cornish countryside around us, may find an area that we cherish is threatened, just as those who live in the Binhamy Farm area have found.
Can I ask people living in the outlying areas — Bush, Kilkhampton, Morwenstow, Grimscott, Launcells, Bridgerule, Whitstone, Week St Mary, Widemouth Bay etc to join those people in Stratton and Bude who are opposed to this development, and write letters of opposition to the planning authority/community services at Bodmin (the address is always with the planning applications in the 'Post'), and the Binhamy Farm development is number 2008/02281. Once Christmas is over, we all have a little more time, and it just might be your area that is affected next.
Once Catesby have planning permission, there is little anyone can do, they can start as and when they choose. Just, for once, let us show them that sometimes 'the little guys' can beat 'the big guys.'
Stratton.
