BUDE’S Castle green was teeming with people especially children last Saturday afternoon, July 13, for the sixth annual ‘Family Fun Festival’, writes Christine Williams.

It was organised by Christians Together from eleven churches of all denominations in the Bude and Stratton district.

In fine weather an estimated 1,000 or so people spent an enjoyable afternoon visiting the many stalls to sample a variety of cold drinks and food including delicious home-made cakes, hot dogs and candy floss, all free of charge.

Then, while listening to local musician Aidan on the bandstand, they could try out their skills at a number of games.

A bouncy castle, coconut shy, skittles, wrestling in sumo suits and quieter games such as snakes and ladders, bagatelle, catch a fish and face painting provided plenty of fun for young and old alike.

A prayer tent and a stall where Alison and Mark Sinden of North Cornwall Gideons were distributing Bibles was a reminder that this was a Christian event. Occasionally Paul Taylor took to the microphone to welcome everyone and speak of the power of prayer. He said they wanted to show Bude and any holiday makers who came along that they really cared about them and to take the opportunity to talk about their faith.

The festival was made possible thanks to fundraising by Christians Together and was coordinated by Jackie and Douglas Adams who said the aim was to give something back to the local people and warmly welcome visitors to the area.
