THE sunset on Saturday brought about a spectacular sky and the end to another successful Delabole Carnival week.
Both adults and children from Delabole, surrounding villages and further afield have enjoyed a full week of various events in the carnival marquee. The culmination of the week was the carnival procession on Saturday evening, which was followed by the end of carnival party with live music from Grizzly Paw. The procession, once again, had some spectacular entries of floats, vehicles and walkers. Local man, Fernley Hatch, received rapturous applause when receiving his prize for 1st in his class. He also won Best Overall Walker, for his entry At Your Convenience. Fernley has entered the carnival most years since 2001, but this is the first time he has won this prestigious award.
Best Overall Float entry was awarded to Camelford British Legion for their entry 100 Years — We Will Remember, a lovely First World War tribute. Some fun was provided along the route by the Delabole’s Greatest Show team entered by Phil Sleep Flooring and Jo Bluett Hairdressing, with antics from driver Phil as the bearded lady, and Dave the tattoo man helping to win them the Most Entertaining En Route award from judges.
The carnival committee would like to thank the team of volunteers who turned up on Sunday morning to empty the marquee as well as the many, many people who have helped throughout the week in an assortment of roles.
See this week’s Post for carnival results.
