THE Delabole Carnival committee is looking for the 2018 carnival royalty.

Applications can be received for the Fairy?Queen position from girls who will be aged between four and 11 on carnival day, July 21, and for Senior Queen from young ladies who will be aged 12 years or more on carnival day.

All applicants must have permission from a parent and must live in the PL33 postcode area, or attend Delabole Primary School.

The committee will provide the successful girls with a trailer to decorate for a float, and a sum of money to help with dresses, etc.

A spokesman said: “All our past queens have had great fun during their royal year, and it is an honour to represent the village of Delabole at any other local carnivals you are able to attend, as well as being in the limelight at our own carnival procession.”

Entries can be posted in a sealed envelope, marked ‘Carnival Royalty’ in the Delabole Slate posting boxes in the village no later than April 10.

The first committee meeting of the year was held in February.

This year, the carnival week will feature a decorated window competition instead of the scarecrow contest. This will be open to both residential and business windows.

Fundraising for the carnival also continues, with a big breakfast at Delabole Methodist Church Schoolroom on Saturday,?April 14.
