THE rain held for a fantastic, colourful Camelford Carnival, with crowds coming out in force to watch the event — and they certainly would not have been disappointed.

Entries were well up on previous years. A total of seven queens came as far as Penryn and Brea. There were magnificent floats — Souls Harbour with their ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ wowed the crowd. A great effort into making sure Camelford was a success and that proved to be the case.

For the first time this year, the Camelford branch of the Royal British Legion entered the carnival with a float entitled ‘Lest we Forget’, and were placed first in their class.

The Delabole Fairy Royal Group swept the board, taking first place in all their classes, and were overjoyed bringing home their silverware.

The River Coven Witches gave great entertainment through the town with their brooms dancing along the procession.

Carnival secretary, Marney Baker, said: “It’s been a great carnival and it brought the community together. I would like to thank all the people that came to support the event and all the hard work by the committee members, and everyone that entered the carnival to make it a brilliant evening.”
