THE Bridgerule Revel Week got off to a great start on Sunday, July 29, by many of the village residents coming to see the new queen, Kacie Greening crowned by the retiring Queen, Caitlin Braund.

Caitlin was presented with a gift for representing the village by attending other carnivals during her year’s reign.

Kacie was attended by brother, Caelen Greening as page, attendants Stella Thomas and Harper Gliddon and page Riley Gliddon.

Once Kacie declared the 2018 Revel Week open, those present took part in various sideshows and enjoyed a cream tea. Later that day a united service, conducted by Mother Elizabeth Burke took place at St Bridget’s Church.

Monday night saw 16 teams taking part in a skittle tournament. The eventual winners were Lou’s Warriors, Pete North and family. Runners up Man Friday.

Tuesday was show day for the village organised by committee members Rick Hallett and Sarah Coleman. Various classes of vegetables, cookery, flower arranging, art and craft, both adult and children were on the entry schedule. There were 83 entries this year. The eventual adult winner was Colin Cholwill and the junior winner was Holly Price.

In the evening a ‘Fun Dog Show’ took place led by Breezelyn Dog Kennels and this year it was sponsored by Hedley Wood Caravan Park. ‘Best in Show’ was Sue and Alfie and ‘Reserve in Show’ went to Margaret and Gypsy.

Wednesday saw the ever-popular ‘ramble’ organised by The Friends of Bridgerule School.

Ramblers made their way to Newacott Cross and further on towards Tackbeare. Here they made their way to East Titson and everyone then having a ride back on a tractor and trailer to the village hall, where they could enjoy a hog roast and BBQ. The local Jammin group entertained in the hall.

Thursday was bingo night, organised by the football club. The hall was packed to capacity and the caller being Jackie Tape.

Friday saw a ‘wine and wisdom quiz’ organised by the Methodist Chapel. Twenty-one teams of up to six took part.

Carnival day followed and a first for Bridgerule this year was fine weather!

Fourteen vehicles entered the ‘Classic Class’. This class is proving very popular and the judge had a difficult decision to make. The ‘Short and Abbott Cup’ for this class went to Norman Williams in his 1931 MG Magna, 2nd was Rob Martin in his 1978 3-litre Ford Capri and 3rd was Colin Cholwill on his 1963 135 Massey Ferguson Tractor.

The carnival procession made their way from The Ham led by The Okehampton Silver Band followed by the carnival queen through the village and back again.

The revel committee expressed its thanks to everyone who supported the week by attending the events held, entering the show or donating items towards an event. Grateful thanks to FOBS, the Football Club and the Methodist Chapel who also held events during the week.

A combined effort made for a very special week for the village of Bridgerule.
