DRIVERS are asked to use an alternative route to Newport Square in Launceston, where a car caught fire this morning (Tuesday).

It is believed the blue Ford caught fire whilst being driven, and police were called at around 11.30am.

The occupants of the car are uninjured.

Firefighters are also in attendance and have cordoned the vehicle. It is currently blocking the road and will be left in place until it is able to be recovered. Drivers are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

It is the second such incident in two days, after a car caught fire at the entrance to Broad Park on Monday afternoon.
