POLICE were called at 3.05pm on Saturday, to reports that a red VW Golf had gone into the River Kensey off Riverside, Launceston.
Upon arrival the police discovered the car ‘was resting nose down in the river at 45 degrees’, with the front end in the water, just outside St Thomas Parish Church on Riverside.
Police said that there was some concern about oil or petrol leaking from the vehicle into the river so the Environment Agency was informed as a precautionary measure.
As yet there is no real explanation of how the car came to be in the river however the vehicle was registered to Launceston and the driver was on the scene to speak with police.
No-one was injured.
