FOLLOWING a few practice sessions, which sandwiched a trials evening washed out by thundery rain, Camelford & District Bowling Club held its Opening Day on Saturday April 18, writes Francis Bennett.
Weather forecasts (if you believe them), predicted a day with cloud clearing from the north by mid-day, following a settled spell of unsettled weather. The afternoon did stay dry, although overcast, and the assembled populous - numbering nigh on 40 ladies and gents - enjoyed a great bowling session, captain Colin Parsons fairly sharing out the male/female mix for teams. Members attending had brought the customary food and after 16 ends everyone retired to the clubhouse for a beautifully presented tea.
Captain Colin had previously welcomed everyone to the opening of the green and reiterated the hope that the season would be successful and enjoyable. He thanked all those attending, those who had helped to prepare the green, the donations of food and the catering helpers. President/ Chairman Eric Smith seconded all Colin's remarks.
The season proper bowls off on Wednesday 22nd with a 'B' team home match against Wadebridge 'C' and an 'A' team match away the following day against Bodmin 'B'.
Successful and unsuccessful scores will follow in due course for all matches throughout the season.
