RETIRED Guider Pam Jasper from Launceston was recently invited to Westminster Abbey to a National Scout and Guide Service of celebration and thanksgiving.
It is an annual event to which selected adult volunteers of the Guiding and Scouting movements are invited with a focus on thanking them for their service and dedication to young people.
It evolved from an annual wreath laying ceremony in the Abbey after the death of Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting movement, in 1941 to an amalgamated service for both movements.
Thirteen guests from Cornwall joined hundreds of volunteers from all over the country, starting their day with a breakfast in the Abbey Church House.
