MAY I be permitted to ask, please, if many of your readers have yet discovered the Little Red Bus of the Launceston Community Transport Partnership? If they have not, then I would like to recommend it to them.
After we had an interesting talk about it by Mr O'Brien at the Werrington Parish Annual Meeting at the end of March I felt that as clerk to the parish council I was almost duty bound to support it, especially as my car has been off the road for quite a while due to a mix-up with the DVLA in which neither side will give in (and I'm certainly not going to!) So the community bus sounded a good idea.
I have used it regularly now for several weeks and have found it most helpful and convenient. I am picked up right at my door and delivered back there again, along with all my shopping. The Little Red Bus will take 'customers' right up to town or will deposit them at Tesco or the Co-operative supermarket if they so desire and will pick them up again there at an agreed time; it will take passengers to hospital appointments or to specified drop-offs in the town centre, if they so request.
For those with a Cornwall County bus pass it is entirely free and for others the fare is most modest. I use the Friday route which includes Werrington and we would really like a few more residents on that route to take advantage of it. We 'regulars' are a happy band but we would really like a few more to join our number.
A telephone call to organiser Mrs Lavinia Archer on 01566 772845 will get your name on the list and a kind gentleman will ring you a couple of days before the date of your required route and will check to see if you wish to travel on the day of your particular route and will tell you the time the bus will be calling at your door. There is ample time for shopping in town or out of town with time of pick up agreed by all the passengers.
It really is a splendid service and I cannot speak too highly of it — especially for 'oldies' like myself! But it's like all things — if you don't use it you lose it, so come on you Friday travellers, we need you to ensure we all keep going!
Launceston.
