MORE than 200 residents of Camelford came to the town's Enfield Park for a candlelit vigil to commemorate the outbreak of the first world war. The event on?August 4, the date of the start of the war, was organised by the Camelford and Advent 1914/1918 Committee, Camelford branch of the Royal British Legion and Camelford Town Council. Residents entering the park were met by music being played over the PA system of records of the era, sung by the stars of the day, like Dame Clara Butt, John McCormack, Harry Champion and others. Vaughan Williams, informed everyone of the evening's programme, and Tintagel Male Orpheus Choir led everybody in a sing-song of the songs of the day. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.

GIVING their support to the evening are Jeff Matthews, Zak Spicer, Evie Spicer, Ali Matthews, and Patrica Nassau-Williams. Picture: Adrian Jasper
