AS PART of the effort to save St Julitta’s Church at Lanteglos-by-Camelford, a candlelit supper was held on Saturday, February 3.

The supper was attended by 50 people who were happy to eat in the semi-dark, where all cooking facilities and catering equipment have to be brought in. A total of £1,200 was raised for the funds of the Friends of Lanteglos Church, who are leading the church restoration project. Members of the Friends of Lanteglos Church and other volunteers helped organise and run the event, which was the idea of the churchwarden, Mary Pearce.

The church dates back to Norman times and the roof was replaced at least 200 years ago, so it is not surprising that slates are falling off and large granite wall stones have moved out of place. A Heritage Lottery Grant has contributed to the first stage of the restoration and other generous grants have been promised, but the church is still short of some £60,000.
