THE Holsworthy, Bideford and District branch of Cats Protection is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, but it is not the joyous occasion it should be, due to the growing number of homeless cats in its care.
The branch is currently caring for 25 kittens and ten adult cats, many of whom have been waiting for a home for months.
Cathy Barber, treasurer, of the branch, said: "We are totally full with a long waiting list to come in. Even though we have just run a successful free neutering campaign people are ringing up daily asking us to take more animals in."
She explained that the influx is because many have let their cats breed and are now unable to find homes for the kittens.
Cathy added: "Some people have to give up cats due to financial problems like losing their job or having to move into rented accommodation."
They include tabby, ginger, Tortoiseshell and black and white cats.
They are all vet checked, vaccinated and mirochipped. There is also an adoption fee.
"Please remember they are a long term commitment and can live for over 20 years," Cathy urged.
