'POST' readers have helped me before (several times). I wonder if they can help me again?
I am interested in Clifton College's stay in Bude, from 1941 to 1945. Readers have helped me already but I have come across another line of enquiry. In the school magazine of July 1944, a reflective editorial said: "...and people dance with St Catherine's..."
As old Bude folk will know, St Catherine's was a girls' preparatory school that occupied a sizeable chunk of the seaward end of Downs View — a girls' St Petroc's in those pre-co-educational days. But did they dance with Clifton's boys? As a prep school, the oldest girls would have been 14 at most.
Would any old girls of St Catherine's who recall those days care to get in touch with me? Write to 26 Parkfield Close, North Petherton, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 6QY, email [email protected]">[email protected], phone 01278 663492 or I'll pop in on one of my frequent visits to Bude.
As always, many thanks to the Post's most helpful readers.
Bridgwater,
Somerset.
