CAMELFORD’S hopes for a modern and updated skatepark area could become a reality by the summer.
That was what the meeting of Camelford Town Council heard last Tuesday evening, when town clerk, Esther Grieg, updated councillors on the SITA grant of £35,000 that has been applied for to help fund the construction and introduction of a new skatepark in the town.
Ms Grieg told councillors in her clerk’s report that SITA Cornwall Trust, which provides grants for community projects, prioritises projects that can be carried out as soon as possible.
“The projects that can start straight away, they tend to be at the top of SITA’s list,” she told the meeting. “And that’s us!”
The skatepark area will also feature a basketball court, which is currently being costed.
It has also been agreed that a seven-year lease would be made available from the Town Trust, so that the town council would not have to enter talks with the charities commission.
Following the meeting of the town council, word from SITA on Friday, April 20, revealed that they would grant the town council the £35,000 needed to fund the skatepark.
Ms Grieg told councillors at the meeting that if this was granted to them, the skatepark could be finished by the summer holidays.
