After a meeting in the town hall in the February of 1938, it was agreed Camelford should join this movement, and so the very first well attended gathering of over 70 ladies met in the schoolroom in Chapel Street on March 21.
Camelford WI is fortunate enough to have the minute and record books from this time. They show a Miss Henmark from County House who read out the rules of the WI, and these were duly signed by the president.
A committee was formed to organise the meetings with demonstrators and speakers, as well as social time.
The first speaker gave her talk on food for health and the benefits of milk, and 75 years later this topic would still be appropriate.
