KEITH Hill, the most senior member of Camelford Town Band and one time president and secretary, has decided the time has come to retire.

His family connections with the band go back almost 100 years, he has a photograph of his grandfather as a young man with other members of the town band taken in 1913. His grandfather Jim played the bass and Keith's father, Will, also played the cornet in the band.

The band went through a quiet and then dormant stage in the late 1950s and in the early 60s the band was disbanded and the instruments were loaned to the Cornwall Association of Brass Bands.

Later the instrument's were loaned to Sir James Smith School in Camelford until 1993 when the band was reformed under the leadership of Eric Tiplady who unfortunately became ill and having to retire. The Directorship passed to Doug Hodge in 1994.
