Joyce Bridgewater, of Camelford had been poisoned by faulty gas appliances leaking carbon monoxide for ten years, nearly killing her.
New research, launched by Gas Safe Register to mark Gas Safety Week (September 10 to 16), has revealed widespread confusion about what the key symptoms are of this potentially fatal gas, which is known as the silent killer.
Despite carbon monoxide being a tasteless, odourless and colourless gas, over half of those questioned thought that a funny taste in the mouth indicated CO poisoning, while a third thought a cough and 29 per cent thought a sore throat.
