A WORK experience placement, undertaken by a creative student at Sir James Smith's Community School, Camelford, has proved to be a prize-winning opportunity.
Year 11 pupil, Eliza Burnard, has just been presented with a prize for her entry into the RIBA Cornwall Branch Work Experience competition, which she entered while working for Parkes Lees Architects Ltd in Launceston in July.
Her entry gained her a second prize in her age group — the design brief being to design an observation station for lifeguard operations, the location of the project being any beach or lakeside in Cornwall.
The station had to have space for two RNLI lifeguards, an observation point where a lifeguard could clearly see people in the water, a first aid room for treating one person and secure overnight storage space for equipment ranging from flags and poles to a spinal board.
