CAMELFORD Town Council are to begin a one month consultation to get local residents' views on dog fouling in Enfield Park, writes Suzanne Cleave.
At the April 21 meeting of the town council, Cllr Rob Rotchell explained that the problem of dog fouling in Enfield Park has come up regularly. The council previously discussed applying for a Dog Order and dividing the park into distinct areas, that were monitored. This would make the children's play area dog free. He said:
"It's about making sure that the public areas are free from fouling."
It was suggested that the council start a public consultation exrcise for one month from May 1. If no objections are received during that time, the council can take into consideration any comments made and apply for the order.
Cllr Philip Lassells asked how the council would consult residents, and clerk to the council, Mr Brian Groves, said the consultation papers would be in the park, in the library and on the internet.
Cllr Lassells suggested that the two veterinary practices in the town are also given some papers for members of the public to pick up.
Cllr Lassells also asked what the council would do if there was no decision made one way or another, and added: "It's quite an emotive thing. I'm in favour but I just want the council to be aware that there could be no clear decision whatsoever."
Cllr Rotchell replied that if that situation arose, the council were there to give its views, but ultimately to remain balanced and make a decision.
It was proposed by Cllr Rotchell that the council start a one month consultation on dog fouling in the park. This was seconded by Cllr Lassells and all councillors voted in favour.
