A NUMBER of Camelford and Delabole groups received a cash boost, following a quiz evening held at Camelford Hall on Saturday.

The quiz was organised by the Camelford branch of the Co-op, and in particular, staff member Aaron Scawn.

He enlisted the help of local resident Eddie McCormick as quizmaster and other staff members from Co-op assisted with setting up and the selling of raffle tickets.

A total of 20 teams took part in the quiz, and the event raised a fantastic £730.

Of this, a donation of £100 was made to the Camelford Charter 750 celebrations; and some money was also handed over to the town's Christmas lights fund.

The majority of the money was given to the winning quiz team, to be donated to a charity of their choice.

After the scores were added up, The Winter Woolies team — consisting of Phil Burnard, Sue Hancock, and Roy and Brenda Burnard — were victorious!

They have chosen to divide the money between the St Piran's Playgroup in Delabole, the Special Needs Unit at Camelford Primary School and Delabole Cricket Club.

Camelford Co-op Store Manager Nick Park, said: "The quiz went remarkably well. I am grateful to all the helpers on the night, who helped the event run smoothly. I'd also like to thank everyone who donated raffle prizes and made cash donations.

"All in all it was a great success and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The amount raised shows the great generosity of the people of Camelford and surrounding areas."

l The build-up to the town's Charter celebrations continues this Saturday, with More School Dinners at Camelford Hall.

People who attended the event last year will know what it's all about, and those who didn't are in for a treat.

Eddie McCormick from Charter 750 said: "It's an absolute hoot. We'd like people to turn up in some form of school uniform."

The evening will include a meal and an evening of entertainment. For more information, please contact Clare Ireland on 01840 213527.
