VISITORS to Camelford’s Enfield Park will soon be able to use a new barbecue that is set to be built.
At the November 2 meeting of the town council, a barbecue area provision in the park was discussed, but the idea was met with mixed responses.
Deputy mayor, Kirsty Ferguson said: “I think it’s a fabulous idea. We’ve been approached by parents who will use it. It will also save our grass. As long as we make certain there’s signage to clean up after themselves.”
Cllr Andy Shaw said he had reservations about the idea — primarily about the rubbish being cleared away and the health and safety issues.
“How do you make it safe?”
Cllr Peter Guesford suggested that a small fence could be erected around the area, and mayor, Rob Rotchell added: “It’s a common feature in parks.”
It was resolved to build a brick barbecue (single shelf) and provide a metal dustbin, signage, fencing and a gate.
Eight councillors voted in favour, with three against.
