A CAMELFORD woman who was exposed to low levels of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning for almost a decade, and which nearly killed her, is supporting the government's call for CO alarms to be fitted in all homes.
Joyce Bridgewater will never fully recover from the prolonged CO poisoning her body was exposed to and consequently she will live the remainder of her life in a wheelchair. Despite having her boiler regularly serviced, her boiler had never been checked and was leaking CO.
The Department of Communities and Local Government Select Committee is recommending that CO alarms should be fitted as standard in all new build homes, but should also be standard in existing homes.
Gas Safe Register — the body that manages gas engineers and protects the public from unsafe gas work — welcomes the report, but as it marks its third year anniversary, is warning people to stay vigilant of cowboy gas fitters.
