CAMELFORD foyer project has now been up and running for four months, and in that time has established a solid reputation for providing help and support to young people struggling to get by. Within the first week of opening the organisation had full occupancy and now receives referrals from those in need all over Cornwall.

The initiative is set up to house young adults from the age of 16 to 25 that are either homeless or leaving care, and during their time staying at the foyer they'll be assisted in developing and improving their life skills to better prepare them for an independent life style.

An open door policy is also available for those in need of advice within the community, allowing people to just pop in and speak freely in a confidential environment, as well as being given information regarding other agencies that may be able to help.

Furthermore, various workshops are held at the Foyer, and already organised are sexual health and drug awareness meetings.

Simon Johnson, from the Camelford Foyer Project, said: "Our aim for the foyer is to give guidance to young adults both within the foyer and the community so that it becomes a good resource for all.

"The statistic is that there are around 300 young people currently on the homeless register in North Cornwall alone! I dread to think what the national statistic is.

"To help with this situation I have organised a music event to be held at the Tintagel Arms, Tintagel on April 4. It will be an unplugged afternoon session from 2pm until 6pm, with my band, 'Shellin' Snails' and 'Kenewick', a very good Cornish band.

Simon continued: "I used to be lead singer of a band called 'Sacred Turf', who had a really good following back in the 90s. I have called on that following for various past fundraising events, by advertising 'Shellin' Snails' as a new band from Si Johnson, lead singer of 'Sacred Turf'. We will not charge on the door, but will welcome donations and pass a bucket round."
