A CAMELFORD couple have organised a number of fundraising events as a way of saying thank you for the help and support received when their son contracted meningitis.

Riley Dingle, now aged two, contracted Meningitis in June 2008 when he was just 11-months old.

Meningitis is an infectious disease that can kill within hours or leave suffers with severe after-effects including brain damage, deafness, and where septicaemia (blood poisoning) has occurred, even loss of limbs.

Riley also contracted Meningococcal Septicaemia and lost the tips of his fingers, toes and part of his left foot. He has also been left with a lot of scarring.

His mum and dad, Bev Pooley and Luke Dingle told the 'Post': "Riley is doing really well now and despite all of what he's been through. He's just as cheeky and active as any other two-year-old.

"We are organising some events to raise awareness and fundraise in aid of the Meningitis Trust who helped us at a very difficult time. Also Ronald Mcdonald House, which was home from home in times of need. When Riley was in hospital they provided us as a family to stay together, somewhere to get rest, cook, eat, and sleep but most importantly be close to the hospital where our son was critically ill."

A bingo and raffle will be held on May 13 at St Breward Football and Social Club, and a youth six-a-side football tournament will follow on May 17, in St Breward.

Also on that day, there will be an evening of entertainment at St Breward FC with music from Michelle Pluess and a sponsored head shave/body wax.

Anyone who would like to make a donation or help with the fundraising is asked to contact Bev on 07717 203603.
