THE Camelford Committee of Cancer Research UK held their 32nd annual general meeting at the Fore Street Methodist Chapel on Thursday, April 15.

Chair, Pam Boundy, welcomed Mrs Sam Williams, Cornwall Volunteer Manager for Cancer Research UK, to the meeting. Mrs Boundy commented on the very successful year, both financially and socially that the committee had enjoyed and also thanked everyone for their hard work and commitment during the year.

Sally Moore, honorary treasurer, gave a very detailed, satisfactory report and presented Mrs Williams with a cheque for £12,800. Upon accepting the donation, Mrs Williams said what an amazing amount of money had been raised by the committee. She thanked all members for their for their efforts, as well as the people of Camelford and district for their continuing support.

Mrs Williams then provided a resume of the work being done by the Cancer Research UK funded scientists, which highlighted many of the achievements being made in the introduction of new drugs for the treatment of the disease and she concluded her speech by urging everyone to continue with their fundraising efforts, as every penny raised was vital to the work of the charity — especially during the current economic climate.

Miss Madge Walkey, honorary secretary, reported on the years activities and thanked the local press for publicising the charity's events. She echoed Mrs Williams' comments in thanking the people of Camelford and surrounding areas for their valued support and generosity.

Mrs Boundy, Mrs Moore and Mrs Walkey were re-elected as officers, whilst Mr Bill Rogers, Mrs Janet Collins, Mrs Ang Goodman, Miss Nicky Hill, Mrs Lynn Oliver and Mrs Jan Stratfield were re-elected to serve on the committee.

Mrs Boundy, on behalf of committee members, sent best wishes to Mr Rogers who was ill in hospital.
