PLANS for 27 affordable dwellings on land adjoining Victoria Gardens, Camelford were refused by North Cornwall District Council's Planning and Development Committee on Tuesday, February 3.

Although the site currently has valid outline consent for 27 affordable dwellings, Poltair Homes were seeking permission for the same number of units but a different mix of tenure, nine for rent and 18 low cost purchase.

The case officer, Paul Banks, had recommended the plans for refusal stating: "In the absence of the applicant entering into any agreed mechanism with the council to secure the provision of local needs affordable housing in accordance with the maximum sale prices set out in the council's Supplementary Planning Guidance — The Negotiation of Community Benefits February 2008 the proposal would fail to provide dwellings to meet local affordable housing needs contrary to the aims and intentions of the council." Councillors voted in favour of the recommendation for refusal.
