AN appeal has gone out for the people of the Launceston area to respond to a draft blueprint for the next 20 years which pitches projected growth in housing at 1,900, an increase of 250 primary age children, and the need for three additional GPs to cater for the projected growth in population.

Cornwall Councillor Phil Parsons told the 'Post' he would welcome responses from the local community on the long term planning strategy for Launceston and the surrounding area.

Cllr Parsons, the local member for South Petherwin and St Thomas explains:

"If there is a desire for Launceston to become once again a key player in the future growth of Cornwall then it will need to drive its strategic geographical setting both for the provision of housing and future economic growth.

"Creating jobs and sustainable economic growth will be the biggest challenge during this time of economic downturn.

"The Core Strategy document is looking at the short, medium and long term strategy for Cornwall up to 20 years' time and it will need to lay out how growth can be maintained when the demands on infrastructure such as link roads, increased traffic, healthcare, education, sewage and surface water will be increased."
