ARMY cadets from Holsworthy have presented a cheque for £612.50 to North Devon Hospice’s outreach centre in the town, The Longhouse, following the early completion of their fundraising challenge.

At their first meeting after Christmas the members of Holsworthy Army Cadet Force (ACF) were set a challenge to choose a local charity and plan an activity to support it by detachment second in command staff serjeant Summer Ashbury, a former cadet who is now an adult instructor.

The cadets decided they would ‘visit’ every ACF detachment location across North Devon by running walking or cycling — with those on a bike having to do two miles for every one the rest walked.

The team was given four weeks to complete but were so enthusiastic that they finished the distance in just two weeks.

During the trek, regular updates were posted on the Facebook ‘JustGiving’ page and the community responded with fantastic generosity donating £612.50.

Receiving the cheque for The Longhouse community and events fundraiser Jess Burford Redgrove thanked the cadets for their efforts and continued support explaining how the money would assist with the delivering of care for local patients with life-limiting illnesses and family support.
