AT the recent annual meeting of the Launceston Choral Society, musical director, Jonathan Mann, reported that in addition to the carol concert and joint summer concert with Launceston Male Voice Choir, the choir had performed Mozart’s Mass in C minor in November and the Requiem by Jenkins at Easter, both to an appreciative audience.

Treasurer, Cherry Warne, thanked all those who had organised and supported fundraising efforts and said the society’s income had exceeded expenditure by over £800. However £750 had been saved on soloists compared with the previous year, as fewer had been required for the works performed, so this was unlikely to be repeated. It was gratifying that almost £1,500 had been raised for other charities in retiring collections.

Diane Smith was elected to the committee as potential webmaster.

The rest of the committee was re-elected en bloc: chairman: Mike Warne; vice-chairman: Mickey Barriball; secretary: Julia Foster; treasurer and publicity officer: Cherry Warne; concert organiser: Diana Anderson; librarian: Brenda Mitchell; refreshments: Jenny Grove; charity secretary and tenor rep: Colin Geal; soprano rep. Ruth Davis; alto rep: Christine Oliver; bass rep: Andy Dunning; Margaret Parfitt. The musical director remains on the committee ex-officio.

On November 12, the choir will be performing Bach’s Magnificat and a contrasting one by Rutter with the carol concert on December 10, both at the Central Methodist Church at 7.30pm.
