IT has been an incredibly busy few days for St Petroc’s School in Bude.

With half-term fast approaching there have been an enormous number of events going on in the school recently.

Recently the Year 3 pupils gave a Harvest Festival assembly. The hall was jam-packed with parents and grandparents who thoroughly enjoyed listening to the children examining what harvest means and the different words that could be formed from the letters in ‘harvest’.

The whole school sang a harvest song and then Tim Aldridge, the chaplain from Shebbear College, rounded off the assembly with some thoughts of his own.

Dan Thornburn, the headmaster, said: “It was brilliant to see the hall so full of people giving thanks for what we have. I was very happy with the amount of donations we received which have all been collected by the Bude Food Bank to be distributed locally to those who need it most.”

The school was again full to the brim with children and visiting parents when St Petroc’s hosted some combined netball and rugby fixtures. Pupils from Shebbear Prep joined the St Petroc’s teams to play against Truro Prep School. This is the first time for a number of years that St Petroc’s has been able to host Truro.

Director of sport, Ben Hilton, said: “It was fantastic to see over 40 children on our pitches and netball court playing competitive sport today. The standard across all matches was excellent and there was clearly a lot of talent on show from all of the schools. Sport is a key part of a St Petroc’s education and is something our pupils thoroughly enjoy on a daily basis.”

St Petroc’s, Shebbear College and Truro School are all part of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust which also has Truro High School and Kingsley School in Bideford as members of the group in Cornwall and Devon.
