THE refugee support group, Bude Welcomes Refugees, has established a high reputation for the monthly collection of clothes, tents, ground sheets, baby milk powder, medical and hygiene products made available to those in need.
The donations are gathered during one week each month and taken to a warehouse in Wadebridge, where another group of volunteers sorts the goods.
Nothing is wasted — if anything is deemed unsuitable, such as big high-heeled shoes, then the items are sent to charity shops.
However, most of the donations are shipped to refugee camps in Jordan or Lebanon, and some are provided to camps in Calais or Dunkirk, where there are currently several hundred unaccompanied children.
A spokesperson for Bude Welcomes Refugees said: “We are extremely grateful for the continued generosity being shown. The refugee crisis continues unabated so we need donations more than ever.”
The next collection will start on September 20. To find out more information, visit the Bude Welcomes Refugees Facebook page, or call 01288 359954.
To find out about other events, all are welcome to attend the next meeting on Friday, September 16 at 10am, taking place at St Olaf’s church hall, Poughill.
