The 1st Bude Scouts have been busy over the past few months, fundraising for two of their scouts to go on the upcoming Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA later this summer.
The trustees of the Bray Institute in Marhamchurch held a fundraising supper on Saturday, March 9 in aid of the institute and also two local explorer scouts, Thomas and Samuel. A delicious three course meal was enjoyed by 45 people, with much of the food donated by residents of the village.
A generous raffle after the meal helped to boost the total raised to £660, which was split between the two causes.
The entertainment was provided by members of the Bude Explorer Scout Unit, including songs and sketches, some of which attracted some very enthusiastic audience participation on stage.
The scout share of the money raised was given to two explorer scouts, who are off to the World Scout Jamboree on Jully 22 to August 2. This was in addition to the sum donated from the scout group at the end of November last year, after they received a cheque for £500 from 1st Bude Scout Group. The group had been fundraising to support the efforts of the explorer scouts in raising £8,000 in order to attend the Jamboree.
More recently, 1st Bude Scout Troop recently held their annual scout and parent day hike at Roughtor on Bodmin Moor. In clear but windy conditions, nearly 30 scouts, parents, leaders and dogs spent a great day on the moors, seeing all that Bodmin Moor has to offer.
A rest at the summit of Brown Willy afforded the hikers spectacular views across the beautiful landscape.
