IT WAS a busy start to the month at Holsworthy Library with an event to celebrate National Poetry Day on October 5 followed by its second annual Fun Palace on October 7.
Mary Weblin, Holsworthy Library supervisor, said: “The poetry evening was well attended with many of our talented local poets reading their own work — or poems they love.
“A range of poems were shared and it was fantastic to see how many people in the area enjoy writing and reading poetry. It was a lovely evening which we hope to repeat again.”
The Friends of Holsworthy Library also launched a poetry competition on the evening.
The competition is for a poem on the theme of ‘truth’, no more than 40 lines. The closing date for entries is November 7.
There will be a prize for the winner of each category — primary school age children, secondary school age children and adults 18 years and above.

On Saturday, October 7, the library hosted its second annual Fun Palaces and were thrilled to have 130 people come through the doors.
Fun Palaces take place world wide over one weekend in October, they are free events where members of the community share skills with each other and as such a perfect fit for libraries which are all about community, knowledge, sharing and fun.
Mary said: “The library was buzzing as people took part in the activities; family history research with Meg and Stephanie from Holsworthy Museum, making a model plane with Wilf from the Men’s Shed, drawing classes with Dawn from the Art Sanctuary and rag rugging with Pam.
“We have a range of regular and one off events taking place — for details keep an eye on our Facebook page and look out for posters in the library and around town.”
