The Phoenix Camera Club, Holsworthy had a very busy December. At the well attended AGM, Gwen Humphries, widow of Edward, a co-founder of the club, presented Tim Onyon with the Edward Humphries Shield as the winner of the Historiological competition. Gwen also made a generous donation towards the club's funds. Tim also won the shield for the largest number of points in the competitions during the past year. This was presented to him by the Chairman, Chris Thain, at the Christmas dinner which was held at the Molesworth Arms, Pyworthy earlier in the month. They had an excellent evening, which ended in a fun pub quiz. The club was also proud to have two members, Rupert Stockwin and Tim Onyon, both win prizes in the Barnstaple Museum's North Devon Heritage competition, which had six categories — town and country, coast and the sea, wildlife, characters, landscape. The competition held during the January meeting was entitled 'The Magic of Christmas' and attracted a mixture of entries from family photographs to Christmas lights. Judged by the members, the overall winner was Rupert Stockwin with his image of the Christmas lights over the Bideford bridge. Several members had brought along photographs taken over the break, which were passed around and commented upon. Their next club evening will be on January 19 and will be an evening of print images from the WCPF. Their exciting new programme for 2009 is full of talks, competitions, tutorials, demonstrations and outings and anyone wanting more details should contact Carol on 01288 356793. The following meeting will be held at the Skills Centre in Holsworthy at 7pm on February 2 and will be an evening with Mr D Madge from Launceston showing members how to layer images on the computer.
