After a summer of heatwaves and prolonged spells of dry weather, it’s been a challenging time for gardeners generally but especially for those striving to keep their hanging baskets fresh and flowering.

A number of businesses taking part in Launceston in Bloom’s ‘Best Kept Hanging Baskets’ competition had taken care to keep their baskets well-watered and blooming so deciding on a winner proved a difficult task.

John Ellison, chairman of Launceston in Bloom, was delighted to announce THREADS in Westgate Street as the winner and presented Sarah, Tricia and Linda with a certificate and a cash prize of £100.

Special mention and congratulations also went to Andrew Simpson of Webbers for their outstanding troughs and to all the shops and businesses for their well-kept hanging baskets.

John added: “The town looked so beautiful this summer thanks to you all. It’s just a pity there had to be just one winner.”
