Tre, Pol & Pen, a completely new farm shop and kitchen rooted in the Tamar Valley, has opened its doors to the public.
The new venture, open seven days a week is dedicated to the concept of serving the best locally sourced fresh food and drink from the Tamar Valley and across the South West. The butchers at Tre, Pol & Pen prepare the finest cuts from Red Ruby beef direct from the Landue Estate that surrounds the shop as well as the best grass-fed meat from the local area.
The kitchen at Tre, Pol & Pen is the heart of the farm shop serving breakfasts, freshly prepared lunches, cream teas, coffee and cake daily. At the centerpiece of the farm shop is a full-size pizza oven with a seasonal menu of Neo Neapolitan pizzas stone-baked daily using fresh ingredients from across the Tamar Valley. As well as a delicatessen stocked with local cheeses, the shop also has one of the largest zero waste dispensers in Cornwall.
The new site located just off the A388 between Launceston and Callington has been specifically built with the celebration of local craft in mind — a central marketplace hosting seasonal markets and craft workshops featuring artisans from across Cornwall and the Tamar Valley. The business is also working closely with local producers to offer customers exclusive lines from the local area including rillettes, non-homogenized milk and beeswax wraps.
The site’s name derives from the Cornish saying, “By Tre, Pol & Pen Shall Ye Know All Cornishmen” with ‘Tre’ meaning farm or homestead, ‘Pol’ meaning pond or spring and ‘Pen’ meaning hilltop or headland.
Tom Malcolm, who co-founded Tre, Pol & Pen with his wife Elizabeth, said: “As a farm nestled on a hill, beside an ancient spring we thought it was only right to call our first farm shop and kitchen, Tre, Pol & Pen. It’s these elements of home, water and earth that we believe are the key to a life well fed. We look forward to welcoming and working with customers and producers who share our ethos.”
