FREEWAVE Surf Academy in Widemouth Bay, is pledging to give £250 towards their chosen charity to help keep their feet on the ground and to shine a light on the work people are doing for charitable causes.
The academy, run by Robin Ross has supported the work of Surfers Against Sewage for many years through their 250-club membership, but have now decided to choose a new charity every year to donate to, so more people can benefit from the money, time and opportunities they can offer as a business.
The yearly starting figure starts at £250 however this is boosted by running activities, events and gathering donations. In addition to raising extra money, the activity and events also help to spread awareness of the charity which will help to support them in their efforts. The events and activities will include free, reduced cost or donations for equipment hire or activities and water sports for locals.
This year, Freewave raised £410 for Bude Food Bank+. Raised through their £250 pledge alongside taking donations and running activities such as surfing lessons and stand-up paddle board hire. As well as the total amount raised, Freewave Surf Academy also donated £240 worth of activity vouchers for the Bude Food Bank+ to use in whatever way they see fit. These vouchers may be distributed to people that will benefit from taking part in some activities or used for promotional purposes to help build more support for the food bank over a longer term. The money was donated as part of the Bude Food Bank+ Christmas Appeal. An important time of year to receive the extra funds.
Freewave Surf Academy are looking to work with local small local charities to help support them in any way possible.
