THE village hall at Langore has received £2,000 from the business club of the Cornwall Community Foundation towards the re-wiring costs of the hall.

Cornwall 100 Club members James Wilson and Louise Oldham from Dunheved Glass and Tim Smith from Nevill Hovey visited the hall and met members of the Langore Craft Group.

Langore Village Hall is the hub of the community. Functions and community events are often held there such as wine and wisdom, lunches, cream teas and whist drives.

A regular craft group and games club meets weekly and the hall also hosts the Christmas Fayre and Easter Fun Day.

The community of Langore has managed to raise sufficient money to replace the roof and windows of the hall, modernise the toilets, replace floor joists where necessary and decorate inside and out.

All the structural work has been completed and the decorating is ongoing as volunteers and weather allow.

Additional funding was required to rewire the building — the existing electrical system is a mix of different ages and is insufficient for modern needs.

The £2,000 from the Cornwall 100 Club will allow starting the work on the electrics so that a cost-effective heating system is in place for the winter, saving money in the long term.

Louise Oldham, marketing manager for Cornwall Glass and Glazing Ltd, said: “Having today met the local people who use Langore Village Hall, which has such sentimental value to all that use it, I can now see how important funds to support the maintenance of older buildings are, and so vital to local community spirit.”

Tim Smith from Nevill Hovey said: “I was delighted to visit Langore Village Hall and to see the work that has already been done to bring it up to a modern standard.

“The Cornwall 100 Club was pleased to help with the costs of re-wiring the building which, as I learnt, has a fascinating history.”

The Cornwall 100 Club, the business arm of the CCF invested a record £41,808 in 17 community projects in 2015. Since its inception more than seven years ago, it has invested more than £200,000 into communities in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, supporting more than 100 local projects.
