BUDE-STRATTON Town Council has delegated the responsibility for drafting a business case of potentially taking over the town’s library service to four councillors, writes Rosie Cripps.

Two new councillors from Bude-Stratton Town Council have been welcomed onto the committee, which is due to look into taking on the library service in Bude. They will join the mayor, Peter Moores, and Cllr Frank Partridge in this venture, as well as responsible financial officer Keith Cornwell.

At the meeting of full council on Thursday, January 4, councillors were required to ‘approve the principle’ of the town council taking on the operation of the library service in Bude, as well as taking on two more representatives for the committee. This will mean that, along with chairman Cllr Moores, vice chairman Cllr Partridge and Mr Cornwell, the committee will be able to draft a business case for the future of the service.

Cllr Heather Partridge put herself forward to be on the committee, which was duly agreed by Cllr Moores who added that Cllr Partridge’s experience as an assistant librarian may be beneficial to the committee. Cllr Lea Deely also put herself forward, which was agreed.

Cornwall Councillor for Bude, Cllr Peter La Broy (Lib Dem), also suggested being involved in any committee meetings. He said: “I would like to stay close to the process as Cornwall Councillor.”

The business case with further detail will be presented to the next meeting of full council on Thursday, February 1.
