THIS year Bradworthy was blessed with dry weather for its village carnival on Saturday, August 25.

As a result, bumper crowds gathered to watch the colourful procession of floats and walkers. The village square was packed with various food vendors, bars, children’s rides and face painters.

The evening’s entertainment began with ‘Magic Martin’, who had the crowds ‘flossing’ and dancing along to the ‘Baby Shark’ song.

Following the crowning of this year’s Royalty — queen Chelsea Wade with her attendants Laura Wade, Brooke Blake and Matilda O’Farrel — judging took place on the football field.

As well as a carnival queen, Bradworthy also had a prince and princess entered in the event for the first time in a number of years. Summer Collins, aged three, and Mason Hayes, four, carried out their roles marvellously on their ‘Beauty and the Beast’ inspired float.

All the carnival entries were of a high standard this year, making the judges’ decisions particularly difficult.

As always the commentary of Johny Furse and Mark Bromell, aka ‘Poldark and Demelza’, added to the enjoyment of the evening.

Following the procession, local band ‘JJ and the Sixes’ had people dancing into the night, and the evening concluded with an impressive fireworks display.

The carnival committee expressed its thanks to everyone who took part in this year’s carnival, as well as all the helpers and volunteers.

They also thanked all the local businesses and individuals who sponsor the carnival.

The next fundraising event will be a comedy night in Bradworthy Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 13.
