Two people from Bude were each gifted a cash prize of £200 plus an overnight stay with a champagne dinner at The Falcon Hotel, worth an impressive £500.
They each received this prize after being crowned winners of the Budelicious Food Festival’s photo and limerick competition.
The photo competition was won by Bude local, Tony Rogers who is an avid fan of photography. His winning submission was entitled Christmas Crackers and impressed judges with its colourisation, breaking the picture into segments and overall depiction of Bude at Christmas time.
Despite being an avid photographer, Tony was still shocked to win. He explained: “I was surprised and pleased to win the competition, because there are some very good photographers living here in Bude. Photography is my hobby. The sight of so many residents of Bude entering the sea on Christmas Day was amazing. I think it captured the brief and spirit of the competition completely but winning was still a lovely surprise.”
Each of the submissions were judged by a panel of three, Uwe Ackermann, a trustee at Photo Oxford; Scott Marshall, from Scott Marshall Photography; and Aaron Kendall, Post news editor.
The Limerick competition was won by Lorraine Mcilwham, after she submitted her short entry:
With beauty that’s second to none,
Come to Bude if you’re looking for fun,
Great surf, super food,
Our resort must be viewed,
UK seaside town number one
Judges, Bill Kneebone, Suzanne Cleave, editor of the Post; and Piers Brendon, historian, loved the short and snappy nature of her limerick and clearly it impressed more than the rest, as it was crowned the winner.
A spokesperson for The Falcon Hotel said: “Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter our limerick competition, the judges loved reading your entries.”
