BUDEHAVEN students and staff were invited to join everyone at Hoghaven for a day of mischievous magic and petrifying potions last Thursday.
The theme tune of Harry Potter wafted through the corridors; the roast dinner in the Great Hall was sold out; house point stickers were proudly worn and the pupils who entered the fancy dress competition were photographed in the library.
A Mastermind quiz took place in the drama studio and Mr Reay organised a Quidditch match at lunchtime in the sports hall.
Forty-one pupils took part in the fancy dress competition and it was a difficult decision to choose the outright winner.
In the end it came down to attention to detail for the character and the winner was Aaliyah Garvie 7IAL, who came as Luna Lovegood, even down to the plum ear-rings and cork necklace.
She won a complete set of the newest publication of Harry Potter.
The seven runners up each won one of the books from the series. They were Lizzie Hobbs (6th form) — Bellatrix Lestrange; Rhys Doyle (7IAL) — a prisoner of Azkaban; Aaron Goodall (7IAL) — Harry Potter; Che Ross (8DVE) — Hagrid; Cameron Speare (9PRL) — Voldermort; Jack Whatley (9PRL) — Dumbledore and Teagan Bale (7SR) — Dobby.
Linda Jones, Budehavan school librarian, said: "A huge thank you to everyone who got involved, created lessons, dressed up and generally helped both pupils and staff to have a great World Book Day. What a fantastic, if exhausting, day it was."
