The president of Bude WI, Carol Sparham, welcomed members, visitors and several new members to the July meeting.
This was held at 7.30pm on Tuesday, July 12, at the Bude Methodist Church Hall. The members were invited to join in a variety of events including craft workshops and a trip to the Hall for Cornwall to see the musical ‘White Christmas’.
The guest speaker was Paula Steer of Lily Warne Wool. Paula gave a highly amusing account of life events that led to her becoming a shepherd and some of the more comical aspects of what her work involves. The peels of laughter echoed around the hall and Cynthia May thanked Paula for a very uplifting talk.
The evening’s competitions were — Flower of the month: 1, Margaret Burch; 2, Lyndsey Faulkner; 3, Monica Haywood.
A hand knitted/crochet toy: 1, Fran Goldthorp’s; 2, Carol Sparham; 3, Gillian Daniels.
The Bake off, a quiche: 1, Eileen Harris; 2, Jane Culverwell; 3, Brenda Dunstan.
No meeting in August, but the members will be getting together on Thursday, August 11, when they will hold their annual coffee morning. This will be between 10am and noon in the Ivor Potter Hall at the Parkhouse Centre. There will be drinks, cakes, home and garden produce, competitions, a tombola, and a sale of beautiful patchwork materials. There is no entry charge and it is hoped many locals and visitors will support this event which will raise funds for The Pearl Exchange a local charity supporting young people.
Carol Sparham closed the meeting saying how she was looking forward to seeing everyone at the coffee morning.
